The finish line – for now – is in sight

No - not done yet, but getting ever closer.

I decided on the backsplash tiles for the kitchen. It will have large subway tiles, with a slightly wavy surface. The colour is between the white of the cabinets and the grey of the walls. The countertop is busy so the backsplash will be plain. The tiles were purchased today at Olympia tile, getting a 30% discount on the total because I had my countertops done by Ottawa Granite Pro. The boxes of tiles are too heavy for me to lift so Robin will pick them up when he does the job, three weeks from now.

The living room is very blah with the beige loves eats on the beige-ish floors. I have yet to decide on an area rug. Furniture shopping in Toronto over the weekend gave me some ideas but nothing has been decided. I got in contact with my decorator and she'll come over after her vacation, during the week of August 18th. I will also pick her brain about drapes for the living room and atrium area. The tv gets too much light right now to be able to see the screen in the daytime.

Having decided on aqua/turquoise as the accent colour for the kitchen I've now acquired enough accessories to have a little lift to the space. The kitchen is purposely neutral but has all the bells and whistles that I've wanted for a long time.

Painting the inside of the front door the same colour as the walls has made it quite acceptable. The old golden wood colour was ugly.

Progress is slow but sure in the office. The issue is to get a decal of a family tree for the photos of the ancestors, or simply hang the pictures on the wall. There are also a number of pictures/paintings/wall art that I'm going to offer on Ottawa Freecycle because they no longer go with the decor at all.

So here are a couple of photos.

Kitchen - completed side only. Later you'll see the area with the backsplash.

Final version of the new cabinet and countertop; all cabinets are white although the base cabinets look rather grey in this view

Hallway

So far, a pretty blank slate; There will be colourful artwork on the walls one day soon.

To avoid a tripping hazard, I don't plan to have a runner.

Entry

And as you step in the door, this will be where you "land". There will likely be a mat of some kind and a replacement for that very tired ottoman that provides seating to take off or put on boots or shoes.
