How it all started

 I'm moving up in the world. Up 7 floors to be exact. I no longer wished to clear snow off my car in the winter or enter a beastly hot car that had been sitting in the sun. For years I was able to rent an indoor spot in the garage but my luck ran out last year. A few rounds of snow removal told me something had to be done. I loved this building and the location perfectly suited me. How would the dilemma be resolved?

It is a bit of a sad tale for starters but it's working out well. For years I'd been able to use the parking spot for Unit 1707 belonging to my friend Lois who was no longer driving. When she needed care, a grandson moved in to help out. I ended up parking on the roof in the designated spot for my unit. Sadly Lois passed away just before Christmas of 2020. She was a remarkable woman and I hope that some of her spirit is still there.

The real estate market was white hot and had now spread to condos. Could I capitalize on a hot market for once? I stumbled upon a wonderful agent, Pauline Timmins, who was familiar with the building and had recently sold a unit. After discussion, she made sure I realized that I'd have to secure a unit for myself first because mine would sell rapidly.

At that point, in late January, I wrote to Lois's family and told them if they were interested in selling unit 1707, then I was very interested in buying it. Short version - I bought that unit, not at all upgraded - for a mutually agreed upon price. I spent a couple of weeks following Pauline's advice, and prepared my unit to look almost like a hotel suite - and it paid off. I sold it in a few days for $65K over my asking price, thank you Pauline. Now I would have the funds to make the desired upgrades.

I took possession of unit 1707 on May 7, 2021 and the closing (and receipt of funds) for my unit is June 3. I have just under a month to get the upgrades completed in order to move in.
