Let there be drapes and colour and a microwave
It's starting to come together. Changes are still in the works, some of which should happen soon and others will take a while longer.
Today, the bedroom got all dressed up in the new blackout drapes. They are blingy like the overhead light and do exactly what they should - prevent the sun from waking me up at 4 am. Well, I guess technically that is still an assumption since this will be the first night they will be put to the test. But although they "puddle" on the floor a little, I'm quite happy with the overall look.
Lighting is still under consideration for the office. For now, just remember that the colours are not exactly as they are "in real life" nor is it as dim. But that lovely desk lamp does a marvellous job as a wireless phone charger, a USB charging port and oh yes, producer of light.
The kitchen got the final appliance installed today - microwave/exhaust fan. It took me some time to figure out how to make it start. Instructions referred to a START button. There is no START button or actually, icon, but after some help from Whirlpool tech support, I found that the +30 Seconds button is also the Start button. The tech lady kept talking about the Timer being what you had to use, and that is wrong. I didn't want to hear a ding when a pre-determined time was up; I wanted to heat my lunch. Eventually I did.

In the foreground is my new pantry. The large bottom drawers hold food, the smaller drawer is for placemats, and behind those doors are pullout shelves for thing like the toaster, blender, kettle, food processor etc. And there is a tall top shelf for tall items like vases. In the background is the microwave. Also note the welcome quilt. Much to my surprise, having been advised by Amazon that the tv area rug would arrive by July 22, it arrived today. With some help from a neighbour, it was put in place in the Atrium/tv area. I'm going to shift it to the diagonal eventually but for now am enjoying the splash of colour. |
So, next week the linen closet door will be framed and installed. The sliding bathroom door with its frosted glass panes, will find its new home in the ensuite bathroom, and the doorway between kitchen and dining room will at last be framed. Painting of course will follow.
Because pretty much everyone is upgrading and renovating their homes, everything takes longer than I'd like. Next Friday the kitchen and both bathrooms will get their new quartz counters and under mount sinks. The current versions will be taken away to the "old counter disposal" on Thursday, the counters will be installed on Friday, and after a weekend with no sinks, the plumbing will be completed on Monday, July 19th. And at that time there will be great rejoicing in 1707. The dishwasher will also be out of commission for the weekend. Patio dining, here I come.
Final painting will follow. At some future date, a backsplash will jazz up the kitchen, and new variations to the two bathroom vanities will make them more than caves under the counter.
When there is something else to show you, I will do that. For now, adieu.
