Why should my renovation go faster than anyone else's

Progress has not been the "word of the day" for over a week now. The kitchen is useable but incomplete. The correct doors for the cabinet over the fridge have been the holdup. I've been promised that Thursday of this week, is finishing day for that most used of rooms. The remaining handles will be attached. The screws that came with them were too short for the thickness of the doors and drawer fronts. The kitchen guys (Ottawa Kitchen Solutions) ran out of them. They were also short of the the supports for the shelves so the pantry shelf is biding its time above the fridge.

I did load up the pantry pullout shelves with small appliances, although the coffee maker will always live on the counter. The former broom closet, thoughtfully full of shelves (thank you Lois), provides lots of storage too. What remains is to determine what sort of door will be installed - and in what decade - to complete that corner.

My good friend Peggy brought her handy self over and put up some hooks and a towel rack in the ensuite bathroom. Yay.

Another good friend, John, changed some of the old beige switches for new white "decor" switches. A couple of switches and all the outlets remain on alert in case I suddenly gain the confidence to continue the project. Fortunately I do know how to turn off the circuit breakers and all circuits are nicely labelled. One day ...

Tomorrow more friends, Pat and Bruce, will assist in installing the remaining towel bars and a few other "wall fittings".

Robin, with his broken hand, is unable to do much at present although he might swing by to oversee the kitchen work promised for this Thursday, July 8.

There remain the mirrored doors for the entry closet,  the ensuite bathroom door and the framing and installation of the linen closet door as the major items at the top of the todo list. Framing and finishing the doorway between kitchen and dining room is pretty high on my list too. But that won't happen until the broken hand has healed.

All in all I think things have gone as well as one might hope in these times when, stuck at home due to the pandemic, everyone is upgrading their living space. You can't go anywhere so why not live somewhere nice, without moving. I'm the exception in that I moved and renovated.

So, to keep myself inspired, here's a peek at the kitchen with some paint applied. There will ultimately be a backsplash. That won't be chosen until the counter is in place and I'll decide what would work best.
