Today the doors in the hall were embellished with handles and can now be opened and closed at will. The order was put in for the frosted glass sliding door for the ensuite bathroom, and the mirror doors for the front entry closet. The current view of my jackets and coats is less than attractive.

Two other huge improvements, one aesthetic and the other functional, were installed.

And possibly the most important to my enjoyment of life, is the dishwasher. I'm very happy with its interior layout and much prefer it to my previous dishwasher. I was rather anxious to see this in person because I'd had to order online. But, it worked out to my satisfaction. And given the lack of enthusiasm I personally have for washing dishes, I feel like I'm back in modern times. The kitchen faucet currently produces a nice soft thin stream of water. Filling the sink enough to wash dishes allows enough time to prepare a meal. My patience however, is not sufficient to wait if I'm not otherwise occupied. Even getting a glassful of water takes what seems like forever. The issue is the old faucet. The other taps in the apartment all produce a nice strong flow.

The nice shiny new dishwasher - already in "receiving dirty dishes" mode. I will be very happy to turn this on, once there are enough items inside. Viewed from different angles the stainless steel front looks more or less the same as the stove.
Quite aside from the misery of washing dishes by hand, under little more than a trickle of water, I have now reclaimed a good deal of space in the dining room. The four chairs can be put around the table and much of the maze has been dismantled, making it much easier to move around.
Once the new cabinet doors arrive later this week, work can begin in the kitchen. The estimated time to complete the reno is a week. I sure hope this holds true. I will have tons of storage space and it will look like a totally different room when the work is done.
Robin reinstalled the vacuum cleaner where it is easily reached and out of sight. I love the light cordless machine although my love of actually using a vacuum cleaner remains rather subdues. He stippled the ceiling where the atrium walls were removed. It may need a lick of pain when the stippling is dry, but even in its current state, looks better than what it was in my previous place. |

You can see where the atrium glass walls/doors were attached but there's no longer a glaring difference. Once the area gets some white paint, the difference will be barely noticeable.
Now it it time to put the "good" dishes away in the console under the tv. That will be my evening's entertainment. After all we are still in Covid times and have to be satisfied with whatever activity we can find.
And the pile of boxes ready for someone else's move will continue to grow. I am going advertise their availability on Ottawa Freecycle when everything has been unpacked and put away. If nobody wants them, the recycling bin outside will accept them anyway.
It's brutally hot outside – currently feeling like 39C when you factor in the humidity. It is a balmy 33C without that. The city is under a heat warning. I am inside enjoying the benefits of A/C. Cancelling today's golf game was the prudent thing to do. Of all the things I might need or want, heatstroke doesn't even make the list.
It's unlikely there will be another update for a few days. There is no need to post photos of the growing pile of cardboard moving boxes or bags of packing paper. |
