It's been a while
I got rather excited a week ago when the kitchen cabinet supplier said that all of the cabinets were complete and ready to go; and the doors would be in by the end of the week. Well, that elation didn't last long. Since that message he has not replied to any messages from the contractor. I'm getting really frustrated. If he would reply with a date that the cabinets will be delivered, or can be picked up, then we have something to work with.
I'm sure there are no more boxes than I had moved in here, but the impression is they are multiplying. Of course many are flattened now and will return to their point of origin in the next couple of days. I have not yet decided about the packing paper. It seems a waste to put it in the recycling so maybe I'll have the office manager post a sign saying that packing paper is available to anyone who is moving. In fact, I don't care if they move as long as I get it out of here. Once the boxes and paper are gone from the living room it will a much more human-friendly space.
I've spent the last couple of days working on the office/guest room. I had simply put things on the shelves in order to get them out of the boxes. Then I bought some storage boxes, filled and labelled them, reconfigured the contents of the shelves, and all in all the room has a much friendlier appeal.
As you can see, there is still a quantity of "stuff" that needs and place to live. Hopefully in the next couple of days the Kallax unit will be installed and "occupied"
IKEA is my source for decor at the moment. I bought a little table on casters – Tingby by name. It's perfect to hold the printer and a supply of paper. And then there is the desk which is a combination of a table top and a set of legs. The legs are named Adil and the table top is Lackhagen or something like that. After a certain amount of angst I managed to get the legs attached, using a drill to completely "install" the screws holding them on. I'm not "handy" but eventually, with considerable noise, not all from the drill, the legs are installed and happily holding up the table top.
The room is now much more user-friendly. A guest could even sleep there, should guests actually be allowed. I'd welcome anyone who is two weeks past their second vaccine.
A few more items are required and another order has been placed at IKEA. After tomorrow if I say "Let there be light", there will actually be some lamps to answer that command. No final decision has been reached on a ceiling fixture for the office/guest room.
So above you see a couple of shots of the office now. You'll see the progress and note also that another storage unit (Kallax), will be needed so that everything may have a place.
I've also received a few Amazon deliveries and the next time the contractor comes here, apart from the kitchen installations, he can also amuse himself (well more likely, amuse me) by putting up the towel bars. At the moment there are absolutely none in either bathroom.
The countertop in the kitchen will be the same quartz as I had in #905 and there should be enough in the one slab to also provide a countertop in the main bathroom. I found a quartz remnant for the en suite bathroom counter. Both bathrooms also desperately need new cabinet doors, and that will be the next step.
So, once the kitchen is completed, the measuring and installation of the countertops can proceed. Shortly after that I expect the bathrooms will start to look quite spiffy.
Hopefully there will be a greatly anticipated amount of progress very soon. Now if we can only get the kitchen supplier to answer his phone...
