FINALLY - more progress
Well, it seems like a long wait since anything has happened, that could be even remotely considered progress. A few little things have been purchased, picked up or delivered to the door. Amazon brought the drapery rod and new blackout drapes for the bedroom. I think they will be a nice addition to the bling in that room. You'll just have to wait to see the finished look. IKEA's curbside service has proven helpful on two occasions. It's worth the $5 charge to not have to wander through what seems like hundreds of kilometres of the store itself, and to end up only with "what you came for". A few items are still out of stock - notably the pullout shelves for the closets. All in good time.
A purchase from IKEA of a KALLAX shelf unit seemed like an easy do-it-yourself build. Well, maybe not so much to someone with 10 thumbs and insufficient strength to push the shelves into place. The little wooden pegs that hold the shelves in position are easily hammered into one side but then the hammer can't be used to push the shelf with the protruding pegs, into the appropriate holes on the corresponding "other" side. I shall prevail eventually. That unit will complete the storage available for the office/guest room. I am already making good use of the new desk lamp with its wireless phone charger and USB port. That's the official charging station for unit 1707. An upholstered chair that used to be in the TV area of the former atrium, is patiently awaiting clearance of the space in the guest room.
I have bought new vanity lights, towel bars and faucets for both bathrooms. The boxes are not very decorative yet fill lots of nooks and crannies at present. Today the "throne" gets reinstalled in the main bathroom and that space will be cleaned up. Right now it looks more like it's about to be demolished than refurbished. The countertops will be quartz, with new undermount sinks. At some later date, the existing cabinet doors will be replaced with new doors and a couple of drawers. It will also be lovely to be able to hang towels on towel bars rather than tossed on the counter or, in the ensuite bath, over the shower enclosure.
The door project is ongoing. Today the entry closet should be adorned with new mirrored sliding doors, the linen closet will have its door installed (maybe), and the sliding door in the ensuite bathroom, with its frosted glass panels, will also find its permanent home on the existing track.
As for the kitchen, the holdup on a feeling of permanency, things are moving. Today the cabinets about to be replaced, will be removed, along with most of the countertop. I'll have the counter above the dishwasher as the only workspace for a while. Tomorrow the new cabinetry, including my much longed-for pantry, will be installed. The final stage will be adding the white shaker-style doors to all cabinets and drawer fronts. And of course, the over-the-range microwave/exhaust fan will leave the huge box now a sort of kitchen island, and fill the designated space over the stove. There's microwave popcorn in my future. And on Monday the Ottawa Granite Pro folks can come in and measure. They already have the quartz slab so I'm hoping that installation isn't too far off.
The layout of this apartment is the same as my previous one, so I hardly feel like I've moved. Well, except for the boxes, lack of wall decoration, and new bits and pieces awaiting installation.
Stay tuned for an update tonight - with pictures. I'll take the 'before' photos now and get on with my day.

| Soon to lose that large box with the microwave - it hasn't been a wonderful island after all |
