Finally back online

It's been a long 4 days since the move. Although I was supposed to be connected to Internet immediately, it wasn't working. The earliest date I could get for a visit from a technician was today. He arrived at 4:15. It took a little while but I guess it was worth the wait. There is very little coax cable required when you have Ignite. Even the tv is on wifi. 

Fortunately after verifying that I was once again able to get online, the technician decided to try the tv and I'm very glad he did. It was not responding correctly. Turns out it needed a new digital box. He stayed long enough to replace it and set it up. Yay. Now all's right in my world.

It was pure chaos here for a few days. The painting was not quite finished, but that was all done this morning. There will still be the kitchen to paint but that won't happen until the updates are completed.

My bed was taken apart for the move and only reassembled today. I can't tell you how nice it will be not to sleep on a mattress on the floor. I can't wait for bedtime. Getting up from the floor is more of a challenge than I enjoy early in the morning. But that's over now. Many thanks to Joe for the take-apart and put-together phases. 

I bought new sheets, washed them and even ironed the large pillowcases. Then I made the bed with the summer solution - the white duvet cover sans duvet. 

The bedroom closet is pretty much organized and will be perfect when I get the three more shelves. Now that I can get online I can once again check out IKEA and order the parts I need and will pick them up curbside.

So, although the wall colour never really looks like the actual colour, you'll get an idea of progress.

How it all started

 I'm moving up in the world. Up 7 floors to be exact. I no longer wished to clear snow off my car in the winter or enter a beastly hot car that had been sitting in the sun. For years I was able to rent an indoor spot in the garage but my luck ran out last year. A few rounds of snow removal told me something had to be done. I loved this building and the location perfectly suited me. How would the dilemma be resolved? It is a bit of a sad tale for starters but it's working out well. For years I'd been able to use the parking spot for Unit 1707 belonging to my friend Lois who was no longer driving. When she needed care, a grandson moved in to help out. I ended up parking on the roof in the designated spot for my unit. Sadly Lois passed away just before Christmas of 2020. She was a remarkable woman and I hope that some of her spirit is still there. It's all about the floors

Well it's now possible to see the floor, er cement - if you ignore smashed tiles, bits of carpet and that dangerous wood strip full of up-pointing nails that holds carpet around the edges in the hall and bedrooms. Good thing that lethal strip is just around the edges of the room. The atrium area tiles came up readily enough but didn't leave a smooth surface. A skim coat of something that looks just like cement, has been applied in that space as well as over some of the old glued down tiles in the kitchen. It looks like those thin tiles are going to stay but the floor has been levelled off. I have to trust what they're doing. My knowledge of flooring extends to recognizing it when I see it. Oh look - hardwood, or tiles or ?? I must say that the floor guys do a good job of cleaning out their garbage at the end of the day - lol. Let there be drapes and colour and a microwave

 It's starting to come together. Changes are still in the works, some of which should happen soon and others will take a while longer. Today, the bedroom got all dressed up in the new blackout drapes. They are blingy like the overhead light and do exactly what they should - prevent the sun from waking me up at 4 am. Well, I guess technically that is still an assumption since this will be the first night they will be put to the test. But although they "puddle" on the floor a little, I'm quite happy with the overall look. Lighting is still under consideration for the office. For now, just remember that the colours are not exactly as they are "in real life" nor is it as dim. But that lovely desk lamp does a marvellous job as a wireless phone charger, a USB charging port and oh yes, producer of light.
