Box moving day
It was early to rise today. The work crew was going to report by 8 and the service elevator was booked. And it all went according to plan.
Joined by cousin Mike and the young couple across the hall, we took a few elevator loads of boxes, sundry "soft packed" items, and the smaller pieces of furniture to their new home. These items are not yet in place. That will take some time.
Painting continues, the doors have no handles, one closet unit is yet to be installed, a frame has to be built for the linen closet door, the washer and dryer have to be delivered and then be installed, and yet more painting. The bathrooms are complete so the thrones can now be placed and made operable. That will be a relief. Pun intended.
The kitchen has a life of its own. Currently the new dishwasher and microwave/range fan are sitting in their boxes in the dining room. The dishwasher will be installed soon. The microwave has to wait in line until its part of the kitchen redo comes to the top of the todo list.
So - here are a couple of photos. You will see that the items will have to be moved to make room for the bigger furniture pieces, yet leave space for the rest of the projects.

IKEA delivered the proper sized replacement closet units today and also dispatched the same company, Second Closet, to pick up the larger versions which I had ordered in error. Except that when the truck came to collect the larger boxes (8 feet long and weighing about 100 lbs each), the guys would not come in. They said I had to bring the boxes to the door because of Covid. Really? Oh yes. The morning guy works for the same company and he brought the boxes into 1707. Let's just say I was not well pleased with the afternoon crew. They told me they were not allowed to come in although if up to them, they would. IKEA's response was that it was left to the discretion of the drivers. SIGH! That's the four letter word I have chosen to insert in this narrative.
A long conversation with IKEA customer service ensued. I have my fingers crossed that the plan for Tuesday meets the approval of the drivers and they deign to take the boxes.
My movers will have to take the large boxes to the back lobby and leave them there as their first order of business. Then they can get on with moving my furniture. When I get the phone call that the truck is arriving, I'll go down to supervise the loading. There was much more to this discussion, including the suggestion that I just wait until the store reopens after lockdown and return them myself. Each one is about the length of my car. No way. So I hope and pray that all goes as planned and they pick up the boxes between 9 and 1. Time will tell.
